Re: Can you relate? So, so very true. Loved it.

Re: Can you relate? That is so very true in my experience. I've always said it is a good thing I am not charging by the hour or it would be a very expensive repair.

Re: Can you relate? My 2-hour jobs turn into 2 weeks. Hours of research on Fordbarn. Thinking if I really want to tackle the job. Get the car up on jack stands (sometimes an hour or 2 right there). Cleaning off greasy or rusty bolts. On and on......

Re: Can you relate? If it only takes two hours, can you really call it a "job"

Re: Can you relate? Terranova...They had the old joke about changing a lightbulb. I changed out the fluorescent tubes in my shop last week. I had to move the car trailer, three non-running vehicles (one on jack stands), get the new tubes out of the loft, R&R the tubes. Two of the brand new tubes did not work so it was off to Lowes (50 mile round trip) for more tubes. Then I had to get everything back where it was and then deal with the disposal of the old tubes. Changing the tubes took maybe 15 minutes. The rest took quite a while. Work? It wasn't like harvesting 5 acres of water melons in the Texas sun, but it sure seemed like work to me.
|
Re: Can you relate? "oldandtired", the next time you have to do this, I suggest you replace the fluorescent tubes with LED's. You'll probably never have ti do it again and the light color and quality is better (and they take a fraction of the power).

Re: Can you relate? I was working for Brunswick Corp. (yup, the Bowling people) too many years ago.
When the owner came over and asked how long it would take to fix his Electronic Automatic Scorekeeper. I told him "about 15 Minutes'. He came back an hour later and asked again....I said "about 15 minutes" He came back another hour later ...same thing. Finally, after several trips he became frustrated and said "you keep saying "about 15 minutes" it's been over 3 hours why do you keep lying to me ?" I said " you asked me how long to fix it.... I said 15 minutes You never asked how long it would take to find the problem. Once I find out what's wrong, it should only take "about 15 minutes " to fix it ! |

Re: Can you relate? tubman...You are correct about the idea of using LED's. I have changed over most of the house to LEDs. The reason I stayed with the fluorescents in the shop was because I had a case of new fluorescents up in the loft. I will order a case of the Daylight LEDs and stick them up in the loft for next time. The local Lowes does not stock 8 foot Daylight LEDs nor do they stock 3 foot Daylight LEDs.

Re: Can you relate? I'm lucky that all of the fixtures in my shop take 4-footers. When I saw I was running short on fluorescent tubes, I bought a bunch of 4 foot LED's and a bag of "tombstones". When I have a tube go out, I take the fixture down, convert it to use LED's, and re-install it. At first I was apprehensive about converting the fixtures, but after the first one, it has become routine.
