Are repo engine pans identical to original?

Are the repo engine pans that the parts houses sell, identical to the original engine pans?

I'm referring to the pans that go between the engine and the frame.

If there are differences please describe what they are?

The biggest difference is the front edge. On repros it is flat. On original ones it has a couple bends on the front edge.

I have not seen repop pans that will fit as well as originals. Another couple of ways to identify reproduction pans are the corners and the frame mounting holes. Originals have round holes, some repops have oblong holes. Originals have rounded corners, whereas some repops have clipped corners.

I don’t think they’re identical (and don’t care), but I have installed repro pans on all my A’s and have for 40 years. They look good and seem to do what they’re supposed to. Original parts are always better, but finding good pans is a challenge, because they were and are such a pain to remove and reinstall, and in the time when A’s were just old cars a lot of mechanics didn’t bother putting them back on when a job required removing them, and discarded them.

I think they give a nice finished appearance in the engine compartment.

I agree. They seem to 'finish off' the engine compartment.

They also direct air properly for cooling.
Also, “identical” and repo are an oxymoron imho
I can’t name one part that qualifies. Many\some are very acceptable however........some not!

The ones that I have fit well . All of the bolt holes were in the right places .

In some cases the improper fit may not be the fault of the repo engine pans but could be caused by a chassis that has sagged and is out of alignment... 90 years of use creates alot of wear and tear; this was the issue with my 1930 Cabriolet.
