A Big Thanks to Mr. Endy Thanks for the heads up Tom. I pulled the rear end on my Town Sedan today to install my Mitchell :D. On the advice of Tom Endy I pulled the axle without the spring. Glad I did. Just as Tom mentioned in another thread one of my shackles was broken. Looks like it broke right at the lube hole, same place as Tom's Grandson's Tudor.
Looks like it has been broken for a while, notice how much the bar is worn and it is cracked. Appears I caught it just in time... :p:p Something to watch out for. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...9b8bf72d3e.jpg |

Re: A Big Thanks to Mr. Endy I had both of the rear shackles break just like that on my Phaeton. I hadn't been able to grease them properly for a while so I investigated. What I found gave me a fright. Things could have turned nasty very quickly, had they let go.
A real quality issue (and liability issue), IMO. |
Re: A Big Thanks to Mr. Endy When I purchased my A someone had wrapped the axle tube under the end of the spring with cloth tape. The end of the spring had worn though the tube, I wonder how long the end of the spring rode on the tube to ware a hole. All fixed now!
