What would it cost to replace a clutch in a 31 coupe with parts. I think mines going out.

I have adjusted it many times over the years and its just time foe a new one.

ahh gotcha - no idea on cost. Is there a local Model A guru near you? Ive heard its easier to pull the rearend and drop the trans.

$10 for NOS disc at a swap meet. $5 for a good looking pressure plate at a swap meet. Sand the flywheel with a 1/4 sheet electric sander $0, and now it works like new. Your cost may vary.

Parts are available at any of the vendors, such as, Brattons, Berts, Snyders,etc.

But, as mentioned, why do you think you need a new clutch other than age.

Just tell us if it grabs, chatters, or slips, just to satisfy curiosity. Also before you go to the expense of replacement check for cracks in the actuating lever that is connected to the pedal.

A lot of work to trust used parts from swap meets (sorry, Tom). I charge $150 labor. Drop it off in the morning and pick it up that afternoon. Better do the throw out bearing and pilot bearing while you are in there. Expect the unexpected. A boogered up throw out bearing carrier, or metal shavings in your transmission will make a relatively easy job into something else.

My grandfather had the car up on ramps to adjust the clutch and as he was testing it before backing off, the actuating arm snapped with the car in 1st. It jumped off the ramps and punched them through the fenders... The freshly repainted fenders.

Sounds a shame....Always block the wheels with wood chocks until the car is sitting on the ground with no one under it and the parking brake on.
