Will a 1936 Ford vin number give any information as to where it was date/built etc ?

Approximate date see the V8 Club restoration manual for 35-36. Also have a body number tag attached to the firewall?

If you have the number that was stamped on the transmission, which is the number that was also stamped on the frame when the engine/trans combo was installed, you can get a ball park estimate of the date that the engine and transmission were built and mated.
But there is no way to get a production build date of your car with that number. The glass bugs, if original, can also give a ball park estimate of the time period the car was manufactured. The car could not have been built before the glass was produced. See the EFV-8 Club's 1935-36 book (as stated above), the DeAngelis Ford Production Facts book, or Mac Van Pelt's web page for the engine / trans build dates.

If it's all original, the numbers would be within the 1936 model year. Mac VP's number page may confirm your numbers. http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...ialnumbers.htm Begin with star then 18 for V8 engine. Numbers follow then another star. If the car is Canadian, a different list will have to be checked. Canadian prefix & numbers differ.

I hope you don't mind, but I will make a little assumption from your user name. I am in the "Corvette World" a bit myself, so I'm familiar with all of the "numbers matching" and "date code" stuff that goes on there. You will be surprised to find how little of that sort of thing goes on in the "Old Ford World". The later cars (shoeboxes etc.) are a little better, as they have data plates giving plant code, paint codes, date of manufacture, etc., but all of this is pretty much a mystery for the pre-war stuff.

The information you have gotten here is about all there is available.
