Wheel cylinder cleanup

I have a bare NORS USA wheel cylinder I wold like to use, but it has some light surface rust on the bore. I don't want to use the hone for surface rust. Is there a 3M Scotchbrite type product that would work with out affecting the bore ? This a 1" x 1&1/4" cylinder which you can't hardly find any more. Thank you Fordbarners.

There is no problem using the standard brake cylinder hone - as if you don't tighten it down, it will just lightly hone the bores. Even if you crank it down, it takes a whole heck of a lot of continuous honing to remove any real amount of material. Go for it . . .

You can also use a "Ball Hone" that is designed for the cylinder sizes you have . . . but you end up having to buy a few of them as they are obviously not adjustable.

Thank you. That'd good info on the brake cylinder hone. Are there any particular grit stone that is finer than another ?

I have wheel cylinder hones & dingle berry hones but I have a 6” long piece of 3/8 tubing with a slot cut I. One end. I take a sheet of red scotch brite cut it into 1 1/2 wide strip then slip one end into slot of tubing. I then twist it around tubing to make a hone cut it to length so the diameter fits cylinder & presto. Hone away for a great finish. Using drill of course with a liquid eg. solvent

Hey Kiwi That's a great idea. I have done something like that with a slotted dowel for other IDs in the past, and forgot all about it until you brought it up. Thank you.
