not a fan.

Hi all , first time post. I have a 41 pickup with a 8BA in it. I would like to know if anyone has put the 41 fan and or crank pulley on the later motor? Just trying to keep cool.

I think the answer is Yes. Do a search and stuff will pop up.

I had a '40 with an 8CM. The 8CM had the crank mounted pulley/fan hub. I think it was cut to the length of an 8BA pulley because it butted up against the seal sleeve on the crank snout. I still have the hub if you want info from it.

I just did that with a 40 coupe with 8ba, also did it with my 41 3/4 ton truck. will get some pictures/details. even used a "o" ring front seal

Re: not a fan.

I posted this in 2017. I've used this method several times.

Everyone has their own solution for this common problem, this is mine. You must have a '40 fan mount pulley to start with. Remove 15/16" from the seal end of the '40 pulley hub, then drill the 3 or 4 spot welds from the pulley, then tap the pulley from the hub, turn the pulley around (reverse) and reinstall on the hub this time close to the fan hub. Put the assembly back on the crank snout and line the pulley up with the water pump pulleys (about 2-7/8" from the backside of the pulley to the machined face of the block), tap it square and reweld the spots. The pulley fits on the hub tight enough to hold its position while you do this. Next remove the new pulley and reinstall the 8ba pulley, bring the timing mark up to the pointer, without rotating remove the 8ba pulley, install the '40 and put a mark on the pulley where the pointer is. Probably file a notch there, after all this " aint no rocketship". This has worked for me a couple of times and no lathe required.

It can be done, but might be best to use an electric fan. If it ain't balanced right, could cause more damage than you care to fix.

Thank you all very much! I new it had to be simple . I just don't now what you can swap and what you need to alter. I'm going to try 42mercs way, it sounds like it's right up my alley. I've spun wrenches for 50 years but could not get my hands on a 41 pickup until a month ago so I will be back I'm sure.

Re: not a fan.

The engine shop that built the 59L for the '40 coupe balanced the '40 hub and fan, so balancing the unit should not be an issue.
