Early 28 Hood Splash Shield My early 28 splash shield does not have any holes for mounting the felt. Did 28 not have any felt the shield. Should I still use it because of squeaks?
I am pretty sure it is original but I see the repros don't have spots for mounting the felt. Also the nuts on the shield appear to be 12-24 rather than 1/4-20 regularly. The standard hardware book says that 12-24 was used until April 28. |
Re: Early 28 Hood Splash Shield We need photos,...they do make a repop shield that doesn't look correct...

Re: Early 28 Hood Splash Shield All 28/29 front aprons had two anti-squeak felt pads attached to the top of the outside with two semi-tubular rivets so if yours do not have the four holes, it is most likely a repop. Also to note, on the 28 style front aprons, I have found two sizes of "D" nuts used, 12-24 for the early sized hood shelf screws, and 1/4-20's for the later sized screws.

Re: Early 28 Hood Splash Shield Quote:
FYI - RGJS - page 13-3 - black painted 12-24 oval-headed screws used through July 1928. Page 13-4 - bead was only along the lower edge for 1928. Anti-squeak for all front shields indicated. Snyder's does not show they have the 1928 front shield. https://aafords.com/aa-chassis/aa-16000-fenders/#fss has more about the front splash shields. |
