1953 Rear Spring U bolts Advice Needed

I am trying to source rear spring clips (u bolts) for my 53 Fordor Customline.

My 52 Car Parts book shows the part number a MA5705-F with dimensions of 3.84 (3 7/8") x 8.20 (8 5/16") x 4.0". ( 53 supplement shows no change)

The bolts I removed are 2 7/8 x 7 1/4 x 1 1/2"

All are 1/2-20 thread with deep nut.

I have had no luck sourcing NOS part for this & need source to find accurate reproduction or custom make source.

The original bolts also are flattened to fit the rear end casing. All the sources I have found only offer the Square, Round and Semi Round. Round seems to be the one is closest, only with out the flattening.

Also need source for Eye Bolts 5/16 x 2 3/8".

So advise if the the round is going to cause issues when the U bolts are tightened to spec on the rear end case. (crush it)

Your experience and advice are needed

I am going to attempt to post pictures with this. If it does not work I will keep trying

A competent spring manufacture almost always offers U-Bolts as well.
If you have an old one for them to copy - all the better.
The round type are actually fairly easy to recreate.

I replaced the Dana 44 in my '54 Ranch Wagon with an 8 inch Maverick which meant I had to have new u bolts made. I'm pretty sure I still have the original u bolts from the 44. Not sure if they are what you're looking for. PM me if interested.

Is there a spring shop in your area? They may be able to duplicate yours.

I've had my local driveline shop make new U-bolts for me on several occasions. I just dropped off my old worn out or broken ones and they reproduced them perfectly.

Thanks for the replies.

A specific Spring shop is not in the Raleigh NC area. Seems like that is one of the trades that cannot survive on Spring Work only. Similar to Radiator shops.

I found a couple of places that may be able to reproduce them, just not local which I prefer.

Any one use

Kansas Spring Works or General Spring or Eaton Detroit Spring or Stengel Brothers or UboltsDirect.com

Or anyone know of shop in North Carolina that actually manufactures?

The question of the flattened area on the inside of the arc is still not answered and I need to know if a round type will work. My previous picture may have not shown what I a talking about correctly.

Is anyone familiar with this flattening?

Try Fleetpride on Jones Sausage Rd, Garner....formerly known as Stone Bros Heavy Equip..
They work on large equip, but have a section that builds driveshafts and springs...I have seen the axle bolts hanging in there, and I think they made them....

I don't believe the flattened part is required. I assume it's too expand the contact area slightly. As long as you follow the correct tightening procedure and torque them to the suggested setting you should be fine with standard round U-Bolts.

Not sure in 53 they had flat top ubolts like in the 30s. Maybe they did, my 53 didn't. I'm sure a 53 guy can clear it up here.

Thanks to all. The flattened area on original bolts certainly fit very well around the axle casing which is not true round.
The flattened area I first thought was ground but the thickness of bolt Is Only slightly altered. I now think it was heated bent over A form. The flattening also expanded the width of the bolt in that area. Certainly designed well.
Perhaps local source can alter.
Hoping someone has experienced the same issue
