Fuel injection
 

Has anyone tried the Autotrend EFI 97? looks like classic appearance with modern drivability. Would appreciate feed back before making the plunge. The performance is suppose to be better as well. www.autotrendefi.com/efi_97.html

They're pretty ugly, but they look to be effective. What's with the dyno run with no results shown?

Contary to popular belief, injection adds no power to the engine !

Its does add driveability and changes the power curve points where power is made..
50 mils of fuel will develop xx amount of power whether it comes thru a injector or thru a carb.:eek:

I thought that this might be a solution for those seeking drivability with a stock (sort Of) appearance. I thought Old Ron worked with the GM throttle body, but it doesn't look at all original. Being able to start right up, not leak fuel, and be dependable goes a long way toward making these old cars more fun.

The website says their system includes an engine management system. To me, that sounds like it would include managing engine timing. Look what the OEMs have done with it. I would like to hear some independent experiences with it.

Just got off the phone from them. Umm, quite pricey at $4300 for one throttle body. Might have to mod the distributor for ECU control as well. Need EFI to/from tank lines as well.

I have 2 cars with Strombergs and they start right up ,don't leak and are dependable. One has been on for 10 years with no problems.

I am sure the fuel metering could be improved ,but to me it is not a problem.

I think that is the first EFI I have seen that is small enough for flathead horsepower range. Interesting concept.

I asked them about a 3x2 setup, and about passed out at the price.

neato and all, but that would buy some nice new carbs, and about a lifetime of driving

I used some "classical gas" strombergs when they first came out. Sold later to Moon etc. At the time i owned Linder Fuel injection here in Indianapolis ( a fuel service shop with in ground chassis dyno) for 24 years. The first strombergs looked very good and were made up by a company on the east coast. They used two 19# Bosch injectors supplied by us . They looked pretty good but the overall fuel mapping could be a chore! These fuel maps would be two types 'Speed density/map or Mass Air flow. The map sensor ones can be tough based on camshaft , engine mods etc. Air flow would be the easiest but can be ugly. Hot rodders dont like ugly !!! Over all pretty cool !!
We injected quite a few cars / hot rods etc and sold a kit to install a TBI on a four barrell intake, always used the factory ecm and had a harness made up by Larrys Auto Electric in Ruma Illinois. A good example was we did a friends boat with TBI the first thing he noticed was with the TBI he could jerk a skier up at a much lower rpm! The TBI moved the rpm for maximum torque....
