1930 Front Bumpe on Rear

Just wondering if anyone has installed a 1930-31 front bumper on the rear of their Model A. How did it work out? Involved or simple?

Simple. Most 30 Deluxe roadsters had a front bumper on the rear if they had sidemount spares. I have two 1930s with front bumper bars on the rear.

I’m thinking that the original full length rear bumper was 2” shorter than a front.
Doubt that little would matter if I’m correct
Surely can be schooled on this

My late 31 tudor deluxe with dual sidemounts had one on the rear.

The stock front bumpers can be installed on the rear of a Model "A" attaching with the stock bumper clamps just as it was in the front. The Service Bulletin of August 1930, Page 484 announces that the front bumper bars were shortened eye-to-eye by 2-7/8", making the new length 60" overall. The length change had nothing to do with using a front bumper on the rear of the Model "A."

Did Vickies and Convertible Sedans come with full length rear bumpers?

All 400A Convertible Sedans were produced with a rear bumper. Victoria's came with the same rear bumperette as most model A's.
To change from rear bumperettes to a full width bumper on a 30-31 Model A, just unbolt the 4 bolts at the rear bumper cross brace and unbolt the 2 bumper clamps. Then use the 2 clamps to mount the full width bumper. After removing the Bumperette support between the rear bumper arm and the cross brace, a replacement filler piece is needed.

I swapped my 30 roadster back to the bumperettes. Didnt like the look of the one piece on the back.........

Re: 1930 Front Bumpe on Rear

I finally saw a photo of a 1930 Tudor with a full length rear bumper. In the front the outer edges of the front bumper curl gently towards the rear of the car at the ends. The rear bumper was also two horizontal bars looking exactly like the front. Then I noticed that the curve at the edges were somewhat sharper in radius and definitely curled more towards the front of the car. So my impression was that indeed the optional rear bumper was not exactly like the front but had more defined end curls quite similar to the standard bumperettes. I found a very nice original one and placed my order this afternoon. Sorry, was not able to capture photos for you.

The short "bumpers" are not bumperettes. Bumperettes are a completely different thing.

My 31 Deluxe Roadster has a ‘front’ bumper on the rear. The car has side mounted spare tires. Simple Installation.
