Rear brake assembly diagram

Does anyone have a list that explains what all parts on this assembly diagram are called?

My '28 phaeton is missing everything that has to do with the parking brake so some sort of list would help searching for parts.

Sounds to me you have a South American car they never seem to have any handbrake parts at all . I have all the parts you will need do you still have the lever in the backplate ??? . I can send you pics of how it looks fully assembled .

John in Suffolk County England .

Re: Rear brake assembly diagram

All I know is that the rear axle is from a '30 pickup, don't know more than that.
Don't have the lever in the backplate.

Pics of how it should look fully assembled would be much appreciated.

Re: Rear brake assembly diagram

Do you have the handbrake band carrier that is the part that is circular and has holes around it . This is the plate the handbrake lever passes through from outside to inside .Can you post a pic of the main backplate from the inside just to see what you have . It sounds like you also do not have the outside lever which connects to the handbrake rod .

John in same place .

Re: Rear brake assembly diagram

Buying from Snyders or Brattons is your best bet both these companies offer high quality parts . The parts I have are all used and are 90 years old and come with no guarantee . The handbrake carrier bushes would need new bushes and reaming etc etc . I will check out my parts book and let you know what you need . You could contact a USA supplier and just ask for EVERYTHING pertaining to the hand brake no doubt you will also need the cross shaft ,handle and the actuating rods . The cross shaft is not being reproduced I have a 28/ 29 one you can have for free you pay the postage .

John in light rain better weather on the way Suffolk County England .

Mikko, My printed paper Brattons catalog 2016 has the diagram complete with names. Here's a scan of it , if it's not legible send me a PM with your email and I'll send a better quality image to you . I don't know if the names also appear on the downloadable cataolg on Bratton's website.

Re: Rear brake assembly diagram

FYI
2 of the emergency brake linkage pins are on backwards. The heads of the pins are to be facing you and all of the cotter pins are inside. If you leave them as it, they will rub against the hub and eventually wear down to the cotter pin and beyond. If you enlarge the diagram on this tread, you will see the direction the pins need to be.

Re: Rear brake assembly diagram

John and Juggs: Thanks for the pictures, helps me a lot. No need to send the crosshaft as I already have one. I'm only missing the parts inside the drum.

Mel Gross: Good information about the linkage pins, thank you.

johnbuckley: The attached file works fine and was exactly what I was looking for, thank you.

Re: Rear brake assembly diagram

Thank you Mel for pointing out the pins are in backwards .I should have rectified that before the photo shoot . In one of the pictures you can see the drum had been rubbing on the backplate so if fitted the pins would have fouled for sure . I bought this pair for $ 40 at the "Big Three Meet " Qualcom Stadium in San Diego about ten years ago . The seller had rebuilt them with all new bushes ,linings etc etc but then went to V8 hydraulics . It was too good a deal to pass up . I have seen the "polished pins" in many backplates it seems quite common maybe because the cotters ( split pins in England ) are easier to fit that way around .

John in very damp as usual Suffolk County England .
