Earthquake

Earthquake in NW North Carolina today, 5.1, almost in Brent Terry's backyard. The Model A's were probably rocking but they are used to that. I hope Brent didn't have any damage in his new shop.

Re: Earthquake

Everyone thinks only of California when they think of earthquakes. The truth is that all states can and have had earthquakes. In fact, the Mississippi River was rerouted in 1811 and 1812 due to forceful earthquakes that occurred over several days.

Loma Prieta, when 880 collapsed in Oakland the residents risked their lives to steal the wallets and valuables off the dead and dying before first responders could get in..such courage in the face of imminent danger

Hey thanks but we're all good! It was felt according to our neighbors but no damage to our home or shop. Pennie & I were actually on our way to church during the 'quake so we really didn't know about it until we arrived at church about 8:20 or so. I texted fellow Fordbarner Randall Strickland who lives about 30 miles from Sparta to check on him. He said they were OK but definitely felt it. I hope he come on here and tells about it first-hand. Thanks for thinking about us.

Do you mean the CNN part or the Russians? :)

Re: Earthquake

There was a quake in VA a few years ago that we felt pretty good in Northern MD. It was strong enough to cause minor damage. I was working on scaffolding at the time and it was shaking in itself, so I never felt a thing!

We have had several here in Alaska also. (But that was just yesterday.)

Re: Earthquake

It's been at least 3 decades since we had anything we could feel. I can't even imagine the horror of being in a 9.

Re: Earthquake

hey, Lurker, howya doing?

Alice was at the kitchen table reading the paper and felt the quake + it rattled the coffee mugs on the shelf. Being a California girl, she knew exactly what it was.
I was out in the front yard watering the plants and didn't feel a thing.

Second earthquake I've missed. Back in the 80s there was a small quake in central Ohio. I was down in the basement and didn't even notice it. My former wife was upstairs and when the house trembled she thought "what in the world is he doing down there?"

Yeah. I’ve heard that a big fault might attract an earthquake,

or two,

or a bunch. Lol
