39 Std Coupe ☺☺ Seat??

Were/are the wood side panels on the seat frame covered with the same material as the seat or door panels???

yes

Re: 39 Std Coupe ☺☺ Seat??

Yes??? Which one? In the Cartouche upholsery samples for 39's, seats are one color and panels are another. I have a hinged at the top seat with wooded side panels .
Were the "seat frame side panels" a striped material, like the seat or a soild color like the door panel.

In my 39 STD coupe, the seat wood sides were covered in seat material fabric.

Side panels are solid. I did a 999 point coupe a couple of years ago.

You're funny! I only offered up the 999 so that "39std" could have some confidence in my reply.
It was claimed the steering wheel was too far away from the column (tube). It was perhaps 1/8'' or so.
I have NEVER had a 1000 point car although I keep trying :)

Thanks Kube, that's the way I thought it should be. I only hope my interior comes out look'n ½ as good as yours. I'll save that picture for furture reference. Thanks again.

Re: 39 Std Coupe ☺☺ Seat??

Thats interesting....I have found if you don't have a big enough gap between the wheel and the tube, when you go to turn a corner, the gap will close up and tear the paint off. Even though you set up the bearings in the steering box so there appears to be no play in them...when the load comes on, it seems like you have too much. Has any car ever earned 1000 points? Would be a tough call...and open to a lot of debate..

Kube / 39 STD,
I also have a 39 Std but I have never had the seat side frame covers. From your post, I gather they are made of wood. Do you have any other pictures of the parts and / or how they attach? I could probably make a pair with a little more info.

Thanks - Bruce

Hi Bruce, In retrospect, I should have made patterns. They are plywood as you suspected. There are as I recall four (?) staked nuts that are used to attach the side boards to the seat (proper).

Getting ready to install upholstry in my 30 STD coupe, when it comes in from LB and will try to remember to make a pattern of the side frames.

Do any of you guys have a picture of the plywood seat side frame covers and / or how they mount? My standard coupe never had them so I need to make some before i get to the upholstery stage. Thanks in advance.

Here's a couple of the seat & frame. Before - After shots. There are 3 anchors (t-nuts) in the side panels for the 5/16 bolts that bolt the side panel to the seat cushion.

Re: 39 Std Coupe ☺☺ Seat??

I just realized from your photos that there is more than one seat configuration in the coupe. You seat back is one piece and apparantly hinges from the top. My seat back is two separate pieces split in the middle and they hinge from the bottom and fold forward. That explains the two (or more) different designs of the side covers. Thanks for the pictures and the education. I now need to find some pictures of the "other" configuration top match my own.

Door panels, not seat.

It sounds as if you have a 1940 seat in your coupe.

The missing part to my seat is the contoured lower panel (from the seat hinge down to the floor)in the attached image. This is not my vehicle but it is a 39 standard like mine. Is this a sheet metal part? Maybe I could make a set if I know what they looked like underneath the upholstery.

From the partial look... it appears you have a sedan seat. The side panels on a coupe seat are wood.

Re: 39 Std Coupe ☺☺ Seat??

It may very well have a sedan seat in it. I have had the car for 40 years but who knows what happened in the previous 30+ years. Thanks
