Installing Roof

Is the roof canvas a big deal to install or should this be done by a professional? I have a 1925 Model T fordor. Thanks

obviously the professional can do a much better job but finances pay a big part in making that decision.

There are books around that explain the process. The main thing, I believe is to have a helper, work from front to back, and go slowly. My plan involves marking off the center line of the material, and to look to borrow flat benches for me, and the helper to stand on.
The material is pulled from both sides at the same time, securing the header section first.
Then slowly step at a time move to the rear. Don't overlook the padding. Ford used some kind of cotton stuff.

Since no one sees it I plan to use that extra foll of fiberglas insulation that's in the rafters of my garage.
Have fun.

If the headliner is in good shape and you are not going to replace it, you can put the top on. If the headliner is going to be replaced, you should do that before putting the top on.

Excellent observation. My headliner is only 50 years old. Most of the history was spent inside.

In the Model T restoration handbook published by Clymer has two great articles by EW Stitt, Retopping the enclosed car and How to make your own top.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.
