project 1934 deluxe coupe
 

Hi everyone, this is the project i am up against. I can handle all the body and paint, just not sure on the correct assembly using the original bolts and hardware. I know my dad has just about everything to complete car, just trying to locate everything is a major task. Will be asking for help as i get to that point in the restoration. Thanks in advance.

Wow, nice ride. Welcome to the "Barn". You will find a lot of expert help here. Just remember there are different levels of involvement here so make sure you make your questions clear and to the point and to what level of originality and detail you are striving to achieve. AND pictures always are a big help and appreciated. There are a few on here that when they give you information, you can take it to the bank as the level of knowledge is unprecedented. ^^^ Thanks. I want the car to be correct as I can possibly can get it. Its not going to be a perfect car, as I believe there is no such thing. But would like it accurate.

Might suggest following "A FEW" of the 33-34 "woodgrain" post running right now, LOTS of good info to read, look at and take note of. You will see a "few" names/handles of a few of the members there to "take note" of. It will also give you a good idea of the "level" of knowledge and depth of resources at hand. Enjoy.

If you want close to original, go to the Early Ford V8 site. There are a lot of knowledgeable people on the site and are very helpful. You might consider joining the EFV8 club as well. The magazine the club publishes is excellent and full of supplier info, parts for sale and wanted, all dedicated to early fords.

With respect, I disagree with the "Only purchase what you need to complete that (one project) task approach" as having been taught otherwise by the experience of numerous restorations spread out over the last fifty plus years.

Instead work on developing as complete a list of what you will need for the entire project as possible so that when opportunity knocks in the form of reasonably-price items in good condition turn up at swap meets and on selling websites (The Swap Meet herein, for example) you can take advantage of it. Original '34 parts vary all over the map in terms of availability and asking price and has been shown with numerous examples, both recent and in the past, good reproduction parts are not available indefinitely. What is available today may well not be available six months hence, let alone several years from now.

One good place to start is to acquire the '34 version of Ford's body and chassis parts catalogs, both of which are available in reprint form. Another valuable source of accurate information is the 1934 version of the Ford hardware catalogue. It was reprinted in the past and while likely out of print at present, copies show up periodically herein, ebay, amazon, and the Early Ford V8 Club website.

As mentioned above, you should join the Early Ford V-8 Club. The bi-monthly magazine is worth the membership alone..

Also, while not correct for the car, that is a mighty rare generator on the engine that many refer to as the "police" generator.

As mentioned above, a couple have already imparted knowledge here that don't get much (IF any) better. ALSO as another recommendation beyond joining the Early Ford V8 Club IS.......The EFV8 club also sells year specific "Restoration Manuals" i.e 1933/1934 and would ALSO be of the must get items behind the ones already mention by DAVIDG.

For example Lebaron Bonney who many in the old Ford community depended on for excellent upholstery is no longer open.

I second the trip to the Early Ford museum In Auburn/Ft Wayne. I was just there in August.

Not to pry, but is dad still around?
Is everything squirreled away "in the garage" somewhere?
I'm interested in that part of the story.

My Dad just passed away on October 24th. He bought the car in 1962 and has most all the parts that I can think of. All the parts are put away, marked in the garage somewhere. I am 56 years old and been a bodyman/painter all my life. I am not totally naive when it comes to this old ford, just trying to find the parts and actually building the car correctly is where its going to take some time for me. I have other cars in the stable. 57 chevy belair 2dr hardtop, 70 LS6 Chevelle (unrestored) and a 72 Nova. My dad has been collecting parts for this old ford since he bought it. Has a lot of rare and hard to find parts for it. Appreciate all the support. Jim

Wow. What a great way to celebrate your dad. I'm sorry for your loss. My dad passed in Nov. of 18, so I'm a year out. Miss him everyday. I'm in the process of buying parts for a '36 sedan that my FIL passed on to me before he passed away 6 years ago.

What a treasure hunt. Finding all the parts and finally bringing your dads vision to reality.
Please keep us updated as you make progress.
