Re: Oil

You should do a search! There must be over 100 threads on this subject.

Re: Oil

I use Pennzoil 10W30 every 1000 miles. Some folks change oil every 500 miles.

Re: Oil

If you were to do a search you'd probably find that 10w 30w is most commonly used.
That is what I use.

Re: Oil

Search for the term "oil survey" (or similar) that several folks have done on FB.

These give many opinions in one posting.

Anymore it's not so much the weight, as it is the chemistry.

Have you tried doing that?

Most forum search functions, including this one, won't search on 3 letter words. It must be a minimum of 4 letters. You can't search for only threads with oil.

You can add a second word to get past this, like "oil change", but then you are bombarded with useless threads on tire change, weather change, spare change, change in seasons, change your mind... you get the idea.

I also haven't seen the ability to require all words in a search on this forum, ie returned hits must include both oil and change. Some other BB software does allow this, and it's very helpful.

One thing you can do is search within topic titles only, that will help, but you will still have a lot of junk to sort through.

Re: Oil

Have used 20w-50 HD oil for years. Walmart.

Also, I add one 16oz bottle of blue STP.

Change once a year or 500 miles. Very rarely make the 500 miles.

Engine rebuilt in the late 60’s, has about 10,000 miles on rebuild. Does not use any oil and compression is all in the mid 60’s. Good power and very quite. Marvel Mystery Oil in gas.

Re: Oil

I recently bought a case (2 five quart jugs) of Kirkland 5W-30 Fully synthetic oil from Costco for $30. It should be fine for winter since my car doesn’t leak or use oil.

I noticed Costco also has the 15w-40 diesel oil that a lot of Model A guys use. Their Kirkland brand comes in a three pack of 1 gallon jugs for $33. Might be good for summer here in So. Cal. when the temp hovers around 100 degrees.

Has anyone tried either of those?

Re: Oil

Changed my oil today. Used 20-50W that I had.

When I first had the Model A I used the recommendation in the owners manual (20W Winter / 40W summer).

The 20-50W seems better.

20-50, like others above. Diesel oils like 15-40 are not recommended by oil makers for gasoline engines.

We use it here in Utah. '28 pickup, 29 tudor, 29 fordor and a 30 tudor. All seem to like it.
