Just acquired a 1927
 

Hello everyone, my name is Charlie. I just recently inherited my grandfarthers 27 T from my dad. My dad secured it for me several years ago and delivered it to me last month along with a few other antiques. My dad is a Model A guy and not much into The Model T's.

The car has personal history for me because it was my Grandfarthers hobby car. Sadly my Grandfarther died at 52 when I was 6 years old. I am now 50 myself and find it ironic that the car found its way into my ownership. It was restored and driven regularly by my Grandfarther but has been parked and garaged for the last 44 years.

I will be restoring it again starting this winter

I do have a set o wooden spoked wheels as well off a touring car. I have not seen them but they were restored by my Grandfarther as well. I have possession of them but they are packed up in a semi trailer at my warehouse at the moment. I'll dig them out over the winter.

Restored? Naa it just needs washed,flat clear coated and driven....wish i had rather than tear apart...

Well to be honest I'll probably just take the fenders, running boards, and cowl off and paint it up. The frame is verry clean and the top looks great. The 1st step is to get her running

I think more fun can be had if not worried about looks just function. that is my goal...and nice interior.i like my but comfy...

This looks like a perfect candidate for a rubdown with GIBBS OIL ! That might be the original paint.
Google GIBBS OIL. I think that you have to order it.
Spraying the paint and rust with WD40 will give you a prevue of what it will do for your car. GIBBS OIL will do a much better job.
I have no connection with GIBBS OIL.

Sounds like terpentine and linseed oil mix that we use on tractors.

What colour oil is in the rear axle? Just interested...

It was painted with a brush last time it was painted. I know how to spray paint myself so painting it is no big deal.

Grab a gallon of gloss black rustoleo, spray the car, brush the axles and have fun... for now. Id protect what youve got with a quick Earl Scheib paint job and drive it. You may not like it so see where yer heads at when you get it running.
A word of note: mechanically, it may fire on a few spins and ask to go for a ride, which is cool, HOWEVER, the one safety issue is the dang babbit thrust bearings in the rear end. I can tell you from my humble experience, that 40 years ago they werent the issue they are today. Theyve now had another 40 years to disintegrate. If they let go, youll find yourself coasting through the red light with the brake pedal to the floor and have that deer in the headlights look! Seriously, they need looking into.
By the way, that trunk lid is worth $400 and the 26-27 coupe rear fenders can be another 3-400 each if theyre solid. ws

I havn't done anything with it yet, the only thing I have done so far is wash it down and put it up on skates in the shop.

Does it run?? If so drive it. If not fix it and drive it. Once you take it apart, you might???

Call me nuts but that's just how i like em, love the patina and the history behind it. if that was mine i'd go through the mechanicals carefully and drive it as is.

Im SO with you guys...i wish I had NOT taken mine apart.Worst thing i ever did.i wish I could get mine back to when i bought it...but with an engine that runs...DONT DO it!

No mater how you proceed, the plate glass needs to go. Having safety glass will only make safer to drive and should not hurt it's value. I would clean and repair the mechanical parts to make it safe to drive and have fun with it.

I think I will take your advice and get her running and get ll the mechanical stuff squared away
