Dehumidifier

Anyone use a dehumidifier in a garage, shop? I did not know if having one would help or hurt?

Re: Dehumidifier

Yes I use one but only when the humidity levels are high outdoors.
Helps to prevent condensation on susceptible parts.

I have one as well. When I had my shop built, I added a large mezzanine. The wood had a lot of moisture in it, and the dehumidifier ran almost constantly the first two years. Now, it runs only when it needs to. I think one is a necessity except where it's very dry.

Here's a hint : after I paid $159.95 for the one I wanted, I saw the exact same unit in a second-hand store for $30 a couple of days later. They had a large selection as well.

I run one all the time in my garage. The living area is over the garage so there is moisture in the building. As others have said, it runs a lot in the summer but not at all in the dry winter air. I think there a good thing to have. ..... Mark

I live in the deep south and my 30x40x12 metal shop never got the spray foam I had hoped for before my building filled up w/my junk and cars so my shop was having lots of humidity issues until a friend recommended one. I purchased a Frigidaire FAD704DWD and it worked so well I bought a 2nd one to run too, night and day difference. One of the two can be seen in this pic on the left side, the other is on the other side of the shop not shown.

Yes have one in the shop and one in the front room, we live in a 1909 built house. They both fill up within two days, amazing how much moisture in the air here in PG

I have one in the garage, garage is insulated, heated and finished in drywall and plaster. Helps to keep the moisture out in the New England weather.

Have my collector cars stored in a garage under my late model garage. We keep a dehumidifier running year around. It collects very little water in the winter but has to dumped almost every day in the summer. We keep the temperature at 60 degrees year around.

Re: Dehumidifier

yes - 24/7 with a direct drain system so never need to dump condensate
