Dizzy needed

Finally getting back to my flathead project . . . time to tackle this distributor. I'm new to these (well actually to flathead mechanics in general) and am kind of (well really) in over my head. I would like to buy a "new technology" distributor for my 51 8BA engine . . . I hear there are several on here who can set me up. I really don't know what to ask or what info to provide, so I need someone who will not be offended by stupid noob questions . . . Point me to someone I can contact, or can someone (re-builder, supplier etc) contact me to help . . . . TY !! PS, I did do a search on here, and that opened my eyes to just how little I know, which prompted this post !! Looking forward to learning more as I go . . .

-Doug.

Chevy conversions are what are often used. Charlie NY here on the Barn does these conversions, I also think 3rd Generation may as well (there may be others).

Joe Panek (Roto-Faze Inc.) makes one of the best distributors for a flathead there is. It can be had with either points or an electronic trigger. Combine that with a Jacobs computer ignition and you have something that is better than a magneto.

If you're not doing a complete stock rebuild, I'd look for a "flattop" Mallory dual point on eBay. Looks good, works good. (Especially with a 6 volt system.) I think "Charlie ny" has sold out of his SBC conversions, and won't be making any more for probably 6 months.

I'd stay far away from the electronic setups if you are still wanting to run 6 volts positive ground with a generator.

I'm sold out of the sbc/8BA distributors....I can build them individually but the price
goes up. If interested e mail me [email protected]'s hard to beat these gems.
I just converted some Mallory sbc distributors to run in 8BA's. The ones that threw the fattest blueist spark are those with the 4 lobe cam. Way cool in appearance too.
I'm using a tubman brass condenser......gotta do that !
