1953 Ford Flathead Timing

After getting the #1 cylinder to TDC and the pulley and the pointer lined up, does the distributor rotor point to the number one spark plug or the number one distributor wire on the distributor cap?

Thank you.

IB

Please ask on the Early V8 forum. This section is not for car questions. Thanks

How did you go with your timing problem ike ?

Anyway, With the timing mark & pointer lined up (no 1 tdc) the rotor will line up (almost) with no1 lead on the distributor. That lead will go to no1 plug.
The firing order is 1 5 4 8 6 3 7 2 in a clockwise direction.
If you consider the distributor as a clock face, no1 will be at around 7 o'clock. (ish)
If the rotor is pointing exactly opposite to no 1 (no6?) Then it's pointing at tdc on the exhaust stroke.

Hope that makes sense.

Cheers

Mick
