carberator problem

I just took my carb and fuel pump apart to overhaul both as suggested earlier from some of you guys and I have run into maybe a problem. The fuel pump was no problem but the carb has me wondering about a part listed on my parts sheet. If any of you guys have the parts sheet for a Holly AA-1 can you tell me if I need the part listed as number 42. It is a Needle-pump discharge. If I had one to start with I sure did not see it when I disassembled it, and I cannot find one in the parts I took off. Thanks a bunch.

75%, or more, of carburetor parts problems, are electrical.

Re: carberator problem

I completely agree with all of the above Lawson.

Are you sure it's not stuck in it's well? They sometimes stick in there. Take a penlight and have a look. I've had to soak, shake, and twiddle to get them out. I is's missing or stuck, it can cause problems.

Re: carberator problem

They look very much like the Stromberg steel inlet fuel valve needle with three sides. Except they are made of brass, longer at 0.75" and have 4 sides.

Here’s a couple of pictures of what it looks like and where it goes.

Re: carberator problem

You might have to blow it out with air from plunger side. I would put a rag over the hole so you don’t shoot it out and loose it or take out an eye.

Re: carberator problem

Thanks to all for the info. I found mine except it doesn't look like the pic by Jockyshift41. It is steel three sided. Not the original I guess. Now I have another problem. I have lost the "pump link". Looked everywhere but only had it on my table. Emptied the trash can twice, carb cleaner bucket twice. If anyone has a old Holly AA-1 they have "parted out" and are willing to sell this part I sure could use it. other wise i'm just an old sailor dead in the water. being 90 % blind in one eye and 50% in the other doesn't help but I just love working on old cars. Thanks for the help guys.

Kelly,
You need it....email me your address and I'll send one to you in the morning.
I believe what you found in the well was an inlet needle.

Re: carberator problem

The Stromberg fuel inlet needle is about 0.690" OAL. This needle should be used with the early Stromberg Carburetors such as the 97. You do want the Holley needle. If you search the web for Charlie Price he has nearly all of the Holley parts for sale.

Re: carberator problem

I would stick with "our Charlie" ("Charlie ny") or some other guys that actually post on this board for advice and parts.

I have had some bad experiences with the other "Charlie" : (Vintage Speed).
