1940/41 Ford 1/2 Ton Windlace installation?
 

Can someone post pictures of the windlace installation on a 1940/41 Ford 1/2 ton Pickup? Especially on the A pillar and dash between the headliner and quarter trim panels, (near the windshield).

So, does the dash need to come out, or is there a trick to tucking it in with the dash in place. This is a truck that is all together, someone just neglected to install windlace and I would love to cut wind noise a bit. Pulling the dash seems intimidating, but maybe just because I have never done it before.

Zoom in on the photo that shows that area. It does NOT get tucked in. In fact, in my opinion, it's kind of a crude design. Still, that's the way it was done.

It must be worth mentioning that the dash is not removable in the 40/41 (up to 47 is the same) pickup. So taking it out to fit the windlace is not an option.

I did not know pickups came with windlace. Is it effective when installed properly?

Kube, zooming in on the photo, it looks like you ran Hidem Welt over the windlace attachment fabric between the trim above the door and where it is covered by the kick panel. Does that sound correct?

There are also 6 small holes along the A Pillar, which I am assuming are utilized when securing the windlace/Hidem Welt along with contact cement, are small screws used here? If so would you know what size? if not is there some other attachment hardware used along this area?

As I recall on the 40 Tonner I used tacks with a spiral thread on the shank which were driven through the fringe on the welting into those holes to hold it to the sheet metal. The tacks were included in the LeBaron Bonney interior kit. The only place I used contact cement was in the center of the cab ceiling to hold the wood block that the headliner is screwed to in order to keep it from sagging.

The drive nails can be purchased from LeBaron Bonney (cat. page32 )
After positioning the windlace. With a sharp (ice pick) locate the existing holes thru the windlace and tap in the nail.

Anyone know of a source for the Drive Nails referred to by 50 MERC-CT in post #12 now that LeBarron Bonney is no longer in business? I should not have put off this project ;-)

Thanks so much for the info. It does look like Restoration Specialties might have them. Any idea how many are required, my truck currently has the headliner installed? I assume they go around the entire opening.

Anyone remember how many drive nails per side? I see 6 holes per side in the A pillar, I know there are some behind the kick panels, but not sure how many above the windows and down the backside of the door opening, or is it just held in place with the trim screws that hold the headliner and trim strips in? I'd like to order these before I remove the headliner and rear trim. My wife doesn't enjoy riding along so much when things are torn out ;)

Also, per expavr's reply, no other adhesive is used to hold the windlace in place, correct?

Just getting prepped to tear things down and would love to have all the parts available so I can have the truck down as short a time as possible.

On my '39 pickup the drive nails went all the way around the doorway so I would think yours was the same. As far as number of nails I don't know, maybe 25 per side. They are spaced out with more around the top area and less on the straight runs. No adhesive used, nails and then trim held on with screws.
