hayden automotive 3647 adjustable thermostatic fan control
 

I have an alum radiator with an electric fan that runs continuously when ignition is on. Looking at the Hayden automotive 3647 adjustable thermostatic fan control. Anyone had any experience with this or similar?

You can fix that fan so you can turn it on manually when you need it. Mount a manual switch and run the hot wire to the switch and one from the switch to the fan.

Would really recommend using a relay as well, if you're not already.

A dash switch that provides a ground path for the fan's ground wire is also useful. Snap-disc thermostats like Hayden's typically have unadjustable open(turn-off) deltas quite a bit below their close(turn-on) set-points. So the fans run & draw 10A or more even when not needed or on trying to re-start a still luke-warm engine. Jack E/NJ

I've used these kits before as I don't like the push in probes.

I agree about the use of a push in probe. I had one fail on a road trip and ended up having to do surgery and bypass the sensor to get back home. I subsequently wired an On/Off toggle switch in the fan motor electrical loop. This hotronics sensor looks to be a good solution but I would still put a toggle switch in the loop just in case.

No experience with the Hayden unit. Vintage Air no.24675-VUT was on my '37 with aluminum radiator when I got the car. Works well, no problems so far. The on/off delta is about ten to fifteen degrees. No separate relay required. Speedway sells it for $39.

I don't have a switch on the dash. Yes, fan is on upon start-up sometimes, but that never has been a problem for me on this car.

Super easy to do, last one I did I put in a toggle just in case.

Where did you install the switch? I'm wondering if a switch can be installed from the a/c override wire (green) to a 12v source.?

If the green wire controls the clutch, should also be able to use it to control the fan relay. Jack E/NJ

Finally 'got 'r done', well almost. Have to run the green (a/c override) wire through a switch to 12v, and finish adjusting the set point down to 180/160. First test, fan came on at 220 off at 200 and I have it down to 200/180 now. Then clean up the mess I made of the wiring & call it a day. Really like not hearing that fan running all the, Thanks for the help and advice.
