No Emergency Brake
 

I have no emergency brake on my 1952 Ford F1.
The rear end was changed to what may be from a Mustang.
There is No emergency brake system from the rear drums forward.
If anyone can give me advise on what my options are for a working
emergency brake system that would be appreciated.

Wilwood makes a mechanical caliper along with a disc brake rotor to mount on the driveshaft. I adapted them to my skidsteer. Often used with rear axle swaps on hot rods and 4x4 vehicles.

If it's drum brake all that may be required are some cables run to your handle

Should be able to use the original rear axle emergency brake setup. The cables could be adapted to the original brake handle.

If you could post a picture(s) of your axle someone here could probably tell you if it is original. If it isn't I would wager that someone will tell you a range of years it was used.

If it is an 8 or 9 inch rear inch rear used used in the 60's and up Fords, most cables from 49 to 90's (and maybe later) should ft. I have a 54 Ford with a 9 inch rear (57) and the 54 cables "bolted" right up with no modification.

In my 48 Ford with an 8 inch rear, I am using the stock brake handle with the cables off the rear (68 Mercury Montego). I did have to make a bracket to hold the back end of the stock front cable which I bolted to the floor pan.

Look for cable off a Mustang, Fairlane or most any Ford product. They do come in different lengths so make sure what length you need. In my opinion, the ones that are one piece are the easiest to work with. You also need to make brackets to hold the end of the outer cable to the frame or floor pan

Unless you want to stay stock, Lokar makes a nice setup that works with most old Ford park brake handles. I have a 9" in my present 32 project, with the Lokar cables but using the stock 32 pb handle ... I have also used their system on my old 40 coupe and will on my 40 pickup project that is next in line .....

Mustang is bound to be a small 5 bolt lug pattern. Certainly not 'truck-like'. The F1 would be 5 lug on 5 1/2" pattern. The mustang something like 5 on 4 1/2. Why someone would mount a small car axle under a pickup is beyond me.

Here is a wild ass guess but there were some trucks that had the e brake mounted on the driveshaft. If the rearend is out of one of those or just the backing plates, you may be missing some components for the e brake. That is not a problem you just need to know what you have and my need a few small parts to hook up the cable. Drum brakes are pretty standard across the board regardless of make model and year.

Thank you to all who responded to my post.
I feel getting the Cabel’s that match the backing plates
Fitting them to the original cable from the brake Handel
May be the answer to this situation.

Looks like a 9 inch to me. What is the lug nut pattern, 5 x 5 1/2 ?
