1929 CCPU Top Assembly
 

I am building a 1929 CCPU and have completed the pieces for the wood top. I am considering putting the wood pieces together on the truck with some glue which would allow me to deal with the top as an assembly instead of individual pieces.
Painting the top would be a lot easier as an assembly but disassembly would obviously be more difficult.
Is there a good reason why the wooden top pieces should not be glued together?

Top wood for an 82-A closed cab was installed with bolts and screws with the cab square and doors aligned. There should be a sealant used between the wood and metal. I suggest insuring all joints are sanded smooth. I used wood filler to insure joints have no gaps. The side quarter panels are nailed to the side wood headers.

The wood top was painted with the cab in body color.

Ford didn't glue the wood together. I don't see any reason to use glue.

I don't think you should glue the wood pieces together. The cab will "flex" slightly. Maybe if the wood was glued together it would hold up to flexing, but who knows. I don't see what would be gained by gluing the wood together as you would still need to fasten (screws and bolts) the wood pieces together and to the cab. This is the reason Ford used rivets to fasten the frame together instead of welding the frame pieces together - to allow some flexing.

I will put the top together as it was originally designed by Ford.
No glue.....

Rex I put my 29 together about aover a year ago and took alot of pictures as I did if you have questions just hit me up.
