Fan to Radiator Clearance

I've taken my radiator to the local radiator shop to be re-cored. The radiator man reckons that the frame will allow me to have four rows of tubes, which I'm thinking of going with.
Now I can't remember how much clearance I had between my aluminium two-blade fan and the old radiator core. Is a 4-row core likely to reduce this clearance too much? He tells me that it will be 54mm (2.13") thick. A 3-row would be 46mm (1.81") thick.

Re: Fan to Radiator Clearance Four core problem with FAN shroud

1. I bought a re-corded 4 row using original tanks and side bars.

One problem is that there is not room to easily mount the original type fan shroud if you decide to use one.

The fins on the inside of the 4 core are now even with the side rails and the shroud mounting holes do not line up.

The 3 row cores are about a 1/3 inch thinner so there is room for shroud and mounting hardware.

2. Also the overflow pipe gets in the way of the shroud where with the three core the pipe is tucked away in space now taken up by the thicker core.

I did not install the fan shroud and left overflow pipe where the radiator guy put it.

I really like the 4 core radiator ... cools very well.
