Re: mallory distributor Not really. When I ran a Mallory dual point on my stock 50 Merc. I didn't notice any difference in performance. Now days, high quality points and condensers are getting harder to find. Here's some good reading.

Re: mallory distributor Absolutely....be sure the curve is flathead friendly. Stock is a sometimes thing with
flatheads....swap meet ( remember them ) 2x2 setups can be enticing. Any mods will go better WITHOUT the Load a Matic. Charlie ny |

Re: mallory distributor any worn out dizzy wont run correctly mallory msd stromberg or ford it dont matter the choice is yours but on a stocker stock works fine the only reason to change is if what your useing isnt up to it for whatever reason it comes down to what you want how often you want to repair/tune and what your prepaired to pay

Re: mallory distributor Most folks change due to getting away from the original carburetor and Load-O-Matic system. Dual point set ups will increase the dwell time for the coil and thus allow for a better spark. As was mentioned, make sure to get the springs & flyweights adjusted for best spark control for the engine application. There will be no benefit for under load spark control but this will only give a lesser amount of fuel mileage overall. If a later modified vacuum advance type distributor such as a GM unit is utilized & properly adjusted then the mileage would be better. Most modern coils function well enough without dual points but it always has some benefit.

Re: mallory distributor In earlier years it was mostly for the cool factor on basically stock engines. Dual pipe, distributor change, these type of things were simple and relative cheap modifications to give you a cool look under the hood.
