29 ccpu windshield glass install I've done a search and read, good info. The frame is sandblasted, primered and painted, new glass, just received bedding from mikies, cork- rubber 1/16" thick, one side of tape has a woven clothe finish and the other has a diamond pattern. Which side goes to the glass?
thanks |
Re: 29 ccpu windshield glass install Cloth finish towards the windshield frame, "stickier" rubber/diamond face towards the glass.

Re: 29 ccpu windshield glass install Thanks, there's a gasket that goes on outside of frame, how do I crimp the thin metal that holds the gasket?
thanks |
Re: 29 ccpu windshield glass install You don't crimp to the gasket. The crimp extends to the corners and you can fish in the gasket from there and work it across. A lubricant works nicely for this. Some use KY Jelly or an equivalent. My strips many years ago came with a small tube of glyceryn. A water soluble lubricant might be best.
The corners are normally "mitered" where they meet at the bottom. You'll want to place the gaskets and leave them "long" and uncut for at least a couple of days. Meanwhile, place the entire assembly out in the sun for several heat/cool cycles which will allow the rubber to reach an "uncompressed/stretched" state - THEN make your fiinal miter cuts. With some luck and patience you can bring it together. Superglue helps make up any error here. Joe K |
Re: 29 ccpu windshield glass install The diamond pattern side has a clear tape on it, do i remove the tape, it is not sticky under the tape.
