Hello all, my name is Ryan and I am a projectoholic as well as a tooloholic. I recently picked up a 1931 Slant window Model A that has already had a great start. It has been chopped, blasted, and repairs already began. My tattoo artist and I had made plans to build this for SEMA next year but he has a ton going on so it's just me. Not sure when I will be done with it due to my work schedule so I'm not putting a deadline on it. Plans are to figure out what frame would be best for it and drop a flathead V8 in it. I have a buddy that has a complete 1950 Lincoln flathead with transmission so that will be a great start. I'm sure I'll have a ton of questions that I can probably do a simple search on here to find the answers to. Anyway, onto the pictures...

You’re kinda in the wrong forum for what you’re wanting to do. This is mainly a stock, or moderately modified forum. Check out the hamb.
By the way, the Lincoln is a large,heavy and probably hard to get parts for. Stick with a ford flatheadV8.

might be a good idea to give him some space. maybe associating with "originalists" (maybe not a word but a concept) will bring him around. it worked for me (my first car was a coupster with a flathead v8, now i have a '29 roadster-mostly original). I enjoy working on it as much and i also enjoy being around the people too.

Hey Ryan,
Cool project. Like suggested you will probably get more info on the HAMB for your custom build. This site is more focused on the traditional stock vehicles.
Don't feel offended, it's your project and your vision. You go for it and most importantly, "Enjoy the adventure".
If it were mine it would end up with an old school flathead V8 in it. Go to this site and at the bottom of the page you will find a few videos of these sweet "flatty's" running. Crank the volume up and use caution, they are addicting... Chap

Stay away from the Lincoln. It is too heavy and speed equipment is scarce and very expensive. I would go with a '38-'48 24 stud flathead. Be sure to resolve the title issues VERY early. As others noted you would probably be better off on the HAMB site but welcome to the fordbarn.

Thank you. I have been on the HAMB as well. I need to get on there more often. Thanks for the input on the flathead. I bought the car how it looks in the pictures above, I just have to finish it.

There is also some great 4-banger equipment available that will look great and the performance will amaze you. V8's are like elbows, everyone has a couple of them. Bangers are unique and draw big crowds at shows!

Give the guy a break. To prove murder you need evidence which you don't even have. He said "I recently picked up a 1931 Slant window Model A that has already had a great start. It has been chopped, blasted, and repairs already began". There is no evidence here that he "wielded the axe" A Jury should not convict on this statement....Lawson Cox would tell you.

On the choice of engine the 337 Lincoln would be novel but I agree with the others about the Ford/Mercury flatty being a better choice. More scope for performance,modification and "blingy bits". He's on the right track with a flathead rather than a Ch*@y and has to be commended for that.

Hahaha... i never understood cutting the top first. For me that's the last thing before interior & paint.
As for engine, when they say stick with something that you can get parts for.... i might sound partial to the 4 cylinder but.... i am! It's unique. Maybe not hugely powerful, but great for a light car.

As others have said steer clear of the Lincoln. It's a boat anchor. Was also used in Fords big trucks if I remember.



I like 8BA's but they are a little harder to put into an A without firewall mods. The 59AB's can be made to work with out firewall mods.


I have an 8BA in my 31 Roadster with out making any body mods but it is a really tight fit.

Good Morning...Jim Brierley, post 11 above, has a vast amount of experience with 'FAST FOURS' as in damn fast Model 'A's. You might want to private message him and I'll bet he knows who can provide you with an 'A' engine that will go damn near as fast as the flathead, or even hide from it. Hot Rods with flatheads are overly common, really hot 'A's are not so common and will be more fun to show and drive...not to mention a bit lighter in the front end. In my humble opinion your body and a hot four will be far more classy than the flathead. Ernie in Arizona
