Stuck GAV

I just re-installed my zenith carburetor (new from Snyder last year) after replacing the exhaust and intake manifolds. The GAV/choke adjustment rod will now not turn. It appears to be suck at the carburetor. What have I done?

Give it some light lube. Some are quite tight.

The "fingers" can be adjusted. I used an ice pick pushed down into where the GAV needle fits to bend slightly the fingers and the "c-clip."

Alternatively you can remove the c-clip and try that. Or replace the c-clip with a small o-ring.

Careful with expanding the fingers - it's possible to "break" one of the fingers off - although in my case it didn't affect the function, and actually served to make the GAV needle turn easier. (I haven't repaired/replaced it yet as there is no need.)

sorted. but for future ref add... rare but the thermal contraction sometimes trap the needle if already screwed in tight to port. And I have had report of a nick on threads making it v stiff to turn
