Weird Fuel pump issue

I have a weird fuel pump issue.

I am installing the fuel pump with the pushrod at the top of its stroke. Before I put the nuts on the posts I can push the pump stand down several times and fuel pumps into the bowl and out the pump towards the carb.

From that point, without removing the stand from the studs, I put the nuts and washers on and tighten them down. Then when I crank the engine, I get no more fuel into the bowl or toward the carb.

Any ideas?

Brad, Two possibilities here. If you have changed either the pushrod or the manifold, you may have an incompatible set. There are two different lengths of pushrods, depending on whether the manifold is aluminum or cast iron. The other possibility is that the pump's actuating cup did not seat on the pushrod when you bolted the stand down.

It was the actuating cup.

I can’t tell you how many times I bolted and bolted that pump to make sure the cup was on the rod.

Oh well, it’s fixed now. Thanks.

Brad, when I do the pump installation it's a throwback to the original, "Crank and Hope" that I got the cup on the rod!!
