36 Ford Coupe Rear Bumper Mounting I have a question about orientation of the rear bumper mounting brackets, NOT the ones that go from the bumper to the body, but those between the end of the frame and the body mounting holes for the rear bumper.
I took these off, not paying attention to orientation and need to know which is right and which is left. They have a piece of metal bent and riveted to them and that piece of metal has an elongated hole and a round hole in it. When mounted, does this metal piece go topside of the bracket or on the bottomside. My guess is that it goes on the bottom. Also, does anyone know what the holes in it might be used for? Re: 36 Ford Coupe Rear Bumper Mounting They go topside, and they carry body bolts which go up through holes in your brackets and screw into captured nuts located inside the body itself.

Re: 36 Ford Coupe Rear Bumper Mounting Thanks for the reply, I had never really noticed those captured nuts before. One of mine appears to be missing and the other appears to be quite rusted. When I got the car, no bolts were in those brackets. That area is pretty inaccessible and I'm not sure what I will do, but thanks for the information about orientation.

Those two bolts can be the most frustrating part of removing the body from the frame - for sure on a coupe where the access to the rusted or twisted off captured nuts is very limited. |
