Make your own pattern in cardboard, test it, and then make one in plywood after you get the pattern right. Pretty simple job.

Thanks Russ

I know it is simple but like to see what people did do to it the right way.
As I bought the floorboard that has the big battery opening to remove it.

Merry Christmas

Hoop, I have a 39 tranny in my 29RPU. I can send you photos by weeks end, as well as a template for the steel plate. I also made my own mat which may interest you.

Stand by.....

I also put a piece of thick foam rubber over the shifter, under the board, to keep the heat out.

Hey Russ,

What did you use to make your mat? I have looked at some rubber mat material at Lowe’s that might work.

I was thinking of making separate mats for the top and bottom boards so I can remove the bottom without having to remove the whole mat. The last time I removed it part of it cracked.

mine was made by upholstery shop. dark blue square weave carpet material and blue ribbed rubber mat i bought on internet (same ribbed pattern as running boards, but blue). Not much original about my 1929 cabriolet except for having a Model A four banger.

Snyder's sells untrimmed rubber floor mats if you are interested in something like that. Then your can cut your holes where they are needed.

I don't recall exactly what the material was. It was a neoprene material. I was able to make it the exact size. A single piece of 1/4" or 3/16" material that will never tear when removed and reinstalled. My floorboards are the ones the venders sell, unmodified. I only had to modify the steel plate that finishes the final hole. The emergency brake handle ends up in the same place, and the shift tower is within an inch to the rear of where the model A tower would be. The material I used I purchased from McMaster Carr as a sheet that I cut to size. I chose a smooth, un-patterned material. My focus was a material that wont ever tear or dry out no matter how many times I removed it.

To protect my carpet, I purchased a rubber door mat from Lowe’s and used the carpet as a template to cut the Lowe’s mat to match. It worked well.

Merry Christmas Joop...Frank Gemmell has a 39 transmission in his four door A that has traveled all over hell's half acre over the years. You might want to go take measurements from it...Ernie

38 Stude center and spokes. I rolled a smaller diameter rim for it, welded it on, and Backwards Unlimited did the grip and rim color for me. The horn button is from a 34 Stude President. I made the outer column and welded the Studebaker shaft stub to the '56 Ford PU shaft. The steering wheel itself was quite a project to get, make, and adapt for what I wanted.
