Titling a body in California

How hard is it to title a body in California. Looking to get a body with out a title.

I don't think you can get a title for just the body.

Calif requires a "vin" number. They will accept a frame or engine number upon a physical verification . AAA insurance that has a DMV station is your best friend in Calif.

Model A's never had a body number.

Re: Titling a body in California

We just had a Coupe verified that had been out of the DMV system for 40+ years.
Got paperwork from DMV.... had a CHP come by the house and verify the number under the cab on the frame. He was there less than 5 minutes. Then paperwork back to DMV.
I see no way to title just a body.
Just my opinion.

That is not a serial number used on the title.

I didn't say it was used on the title, you said Model A's never had
a body number.

In California after you have picked up the proper DMV paperwork
just stop by the DMV office and they make a appointment for a
officer to meet you where the car is. In our case the car was at
the house. Officer arrived promptly on time.

Re: Titling a body in California

California won’t just register a body any way, they want to see a whole car.
California also won’t go off of an engine number anymore as too many engines have been changed over time to make it an accurate way registering a car.
They need a proper VIN number.
If there is no VIN they will take receipts for all your parts that make up a complete car and
CHP will issue their own VIN for the car called a “CA” tag.

I said that in the context of serial number discussion. You know that.

It doesn't work that way in the big city. You have to take the vehicle to them here.
