oil pump cam gear Hello, I have taken my 59 a down to re-gasket and clean and inspect.I have the cam with the press on oil pump drive gear. There have been a few problems with the gears slipping. I have read about pinning the gear does anyone have a pic.of this. can you drill between the cam and gear put in an allen set screw.Thanx in advance Pete.

Re: oil pump cam gear Mine is a 8CM but the engine is tore down for rebuild. Cam's oil pump gear is loose and sloppy on the stub. Builder said don't risk fixing it, so I got a new cam.
If yours is tight you should be ok. I'd like to Zap my new cam gear with a spot weld of some 7018. But I'm not going to. Gene |
Re: oil pump cam gear Weld it, and good to go, been there ...........OLD.....BILL

Re: oil pump cam gear I would NOT weld it....The cam is cast iron and the gear is steel..The gear is carburized and welding heat will draw the temper.
I pin the gear on race engines by drilling on the parting line and tapping for a 8-32 set screw..Loctite the screw and peen over the edge of the hole after it is in. |
Re: oil pump cam gear thanx Pete!

Re: oil pump cam gear Welding is a disaster waiting to happen if done by someone with an old buz box or a lack of experience stick with Racer Petes sound suggestion.Very simple and removable if done with an allen set screw.
