1931 Slant Window Cabriolet outside mirrors My restored Cabriolet does not have any outside review mirrors. I assume Ford produced mirrors for this model. I want to keep it original but have been unable to find any mirrors for this late model Cabriolet. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you

Re: 1931 Slant Window Cabriolet outside mirrors Generally Ford only had them on the windshield header or frame with trucks being an exception. There were accessories though for both open and closed cars. The 68C has more of a coupe type pillar so they would use either a hinge mirror or the edge mount peep mirror on the forward side window supports. Some like the long stem hinge mirror. The side mount spare tire mounted mirrors are another. I don't know if any of them are similar to an original Ford accessory or not but the ultimate goal is to get a mirror that is easily usable and doesn't detract from the look of the car.
Perhaps another 68C owner may be able to offer better suggestions. |

You need reproduction accessory mirrors like these that are on my Victoria.

Re: 1931 Slant Window Cabriolet outside mirrors A friend had the fender spare mounted mirrors, but they vibrated so bad they were useless...

Re: 1931 Slant Window Cabriolet outside mirrors I put hinge mirrors on my 31 Slant Window Cabriolet. Of course I needed longer hinge pins to accommodate the hinge plus the part of the mirror mount arm which spans the hinge. I also discovered that I needed a larger diameter hinge pin on my 68C. I found oversize hinge pins (B-46335-0SS) at Macs Auto Parts….and then I had to drill out the mirror mount arm to accommodate the larger diameter hinge pin.
Then I bought a convex mirror from an auto parts store for a few bucks and stuck it to the one on the passenger side. They look good and are especially helpful when the top is up! |
Re: 1931 Slant Window Cabriolet outside mirrors I installed a period correct clamp on door edge mirror on my 68C. I cut gasket material & placed it between the painted area and the mirror. It look fine & has lasted several years with no problem.
