Engine stops when it is hot Hi all! I have a 1947 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe with the 239 cu in Flathead engine. A while ago, I have a problem, and that is that when the engine gets hot, it shuts down. In cold it starts very well, the car runs fine, but when the engine is hot, it shuts down. And I can only turn it on again, when I let it cool. Someone went through this and can you guide me? Thank you very much!

Re: Engine stops when it is hot I had the exact same problem. I chased what I thought was vapor lock for a month but it turned out to be bad coil.

Re: Engine stops when it is hot I thought the same, about fuel. But yesterday I noticed the coil very very hot and I started to think that it could be that. Thanks for your experience.

Re: Engine stops when it is hot I think people should check the current draw of ignition circuit more often when a coil is suspect or getting hot, or the resistance in circuit is in question,I think about 3 amps give or take a little is @ good number...

Re: Engine stops when it is hot Finally I changed the coil yesterday and it seems like the trouble desapear.
However the new coil keeps getting hot. Anyone know if this is normal? Or if as Don says, I should check the dynamo or the circuits? Thanks to everyone for your replies |
Re: Engine stops when it is hot Check the ignition resistor for proper function.
