Installing stainless trim on 46 runningboards Ok,I've used half a bottle dishwashing soap to help slide this stainless on. It will go 10-12 inches and it stops. Rubber feels smooth but may try some 320 sandpaper with detergent to smooth it more tomorrow. Any suggestions???
Thanks |
Re: Installing stainless trim on 46 runningboards I never have slid them on. Usually line them up on the length of the board and slap (press) them in place. They will snap in place with out too much force. This was done on NOS running boards and NOS trim. This may have made a difference.

Re: Installing stainless trim on 46 runningboards THANK YOU!!! I have been sitting here thinking about doing that tomorrow. Makes sense but didnt know if I would be able to pull it up on top of board once it was latched on lip(bottom edge of board). Thanks for the advice

I guess this doesn't help much. John |
Re: Installing stainless trim on 46 runningboards Suggest hooking trim on bottom lift up hard and at the same time snap the top onto the board .use the palm of your hand , lift and snap. might not hurt to spray cilicone on rubber first

Re: Installing stainless trim on 46 runningboards If you use silcone I hope you don't plane to do any paint work on the car. You will regret
using it if you do. This is comming from someone that had done collision repair and painting for over 50 years and a collision repair shop owner for over 45 years. I did not allow silcone either inside my shop or outside of it. |
Re: Installing stainless trim on 46 runningboards No silicone, dishwashing soap. Worked great, job done. Thanks guys

Re: Installing stainless trim on 46 runningboards Hi 46woodie, I'll be tackling my runningboards this Fall and would love to pick your brain and learn from your experience. I have a 46 woodie also. Are you in the NWClub member directory?

Hi woodiewagon46, I'm located on the west coast and we just held Woodies on the Wharf. Attendance was around 145 cars, down from the usual 170ish. It was a beautiful day with beautiful cars, and the people weren't bad either. I hope you have a good show at Mystic. I've attached a couple photos from WOW.
