Speedometer cable clip placement on frame

5 Attachment(s)
I have a 1930 ccpu, 82-B, that I am trying to get back in order and on the road again. The previous owner did some questionable things, so I am trying to replace and revive much os what was done incorrectly, as best I can.

Forget about the positive battery cable which is long enough to stretch from London to Texas, as it has already been removed and will be replaced. Same with the battery box holder assembly.

My question is regarding those clips for holding the speedometer cable up and off of the muffler so that the grease inside of it is not burned and the cable is essentially free or clear of obstructions. Where are these clips normally attached on the frame or elsewhere so that the cable is protected and free from laying on top of the muffler as shown in these photos?

Waiting on a new wiring harness and other parts to get the ol' Gal up and on the road as a daily driver. I haven't seen any photos of the placement for these speedometer cable clips and wondered if it was simply up to the owner to put them where they wanted them or if there was really some specific location for them?

Thanks for any input or photos.

From the shift lever go to the right top frame rail and you should see the mounting hole. I posted a picture once, but have very little luck in using the search.

In your last picture, just above the yellow arrow, there is a hole in the frame. That is where the clip goes.

Thanks.

I went out and looked the frame over and located the exact hole for proper placement . I also found that the photos I had previously posted tricked the eye a bit, as that speedometer cable is not actually laying on top of the muffler at all as it appears, but is maybe a couple of inches above it.

There was a big grease globule at the frame where it was routed and I put my hand right into it as I ran my fingers down the cable near that mounting point. I'll have to check that out, as I had my speedometer refurbished and re-calibrated and I don't want to have cable issues when I reinstall it in the near future.

Again, thanks for all the input and photos.

There is also a small bracket on the firewall that holds the cable

Had the same problem and used zip ties. I didn't know the bracket was used. Mitch/Pa, where on the firewall does the other other one go?
Thanks for the help! I learn something every day reading here.

I believe it's the same bracket that holds the wiring to the firewall going into the junction box on the 30-31

Does anyone know for sure if the bolt head is down, or is it on top?

Someone had my clip in the bottom rail lip, so I moved it to the top, where it should be. I installed the bolt from the bottom up because I couldn't fit it from the top down without lifting the body.

You would think for a car that is almost a hundred years old, someone would get the information right and stop updating the judging standards book

'The bolt was inserted up from the bottom up through 1929, and from the top of the frame thereafter"

Has not changed in the JSB since the second edition in 1994.
I am researching the subject of the Speedometer Cable using the search function on this site and to the point...it sucks.

Re: Speedometer cable clip placement on frame

Thank you for this post. It was certainly timely. We are in the process of restoring a 1930 Tudor for my 14-year old grandson. During the past four months we have completely dismantled the Tudor. We are now in the process of putting it back together. My grandson has been much involved in the process. One of the problems we encountered was where the bracket that supported the speedo cable attached to the frame. As a senior citizen my mind was completely blank where we removed it from. My grandson and I searched the frame for the proper hole and were apparently looking in the wrong place. The responders to this post showed the exact location and it was right there in front of us. Thanks again, the bracket has been correctly installed.
