Another plug for Marvels Mystery Oil. A good friend has just put a rebuilt engine in his car and then tried to crank it over. I had set for a good many years on his work bench, and he had run it some when he first had it built, but it has been over 10 years since that time and when he tried to crank it over, no luck. He told me he could move it with a long "cheater" handle, but wondered if I had a better suggestion. He assured me that there had been oil in the dipper try as he put a scope down the fill pipe and the trays were still full. Obviously het topped up the pan before cranking. I suggested that he put a half cup or so of Marvels Mystery Oil in each cylinder and let it sit overnight, or longer, so he did. This afternoon he cranked her over with the starter and could feel it turn ever so slightly on the first bump, so he bumped it a few more time and then turned the key on and fired right up. Sounds really good and he is going to look at the cylinder walls after it runs a bit, but the MMO id its job.

mmo is the first thing you should try when you have an engine that wont turn over or you have a stuck valve, xlnt stuff

A few days ago my neighbor gave me a Honda EX 800 portable generator that didn't work. He said his kids borrowed it and returned it not working some years ago. I went to pull it over and it stopped as soon as the cam hit a stuck valve, I put some MMO in the cylinder and kept bumping it by using a wrench on the armature end bolt. It only took about 10 minutes to get the valve freed up and have good compression.

Then I found it had no spark, so I did more disassembly and found a stuck kill switch. I put some MMO on the switch and got it working and had good spark. Then it still wouldn't fire, so I took the carb apart and found the jets blocked solid from old crap gas. After cleaning the jets the generator fired right up, but smoked like crazy. I thought the rings might be shot, but decided to let it run for a good half hour, and that's about how long it took for all the MMO oil to burn off the cylinder and out of the muffler.

If MMO is only good for one thing, it would be unsticking stuck engines! When I got my little Allis "B". it had a stuck engine. Some MMO in the cylinders and a day or two and Voila! It wasn't stuck anymore! However, When your'e going to store an engine, put some STP in the oil beforehand and run it and maybe it won't be stuck.

I mix a few ounces with fuel occasionally for a "happy" engine.

Just curious but, why wouldn't just putting normal motor oil in each cylinder do the same exact thing?

What makes MMO so "special" in this situation?
All it is, is mineral oil mixed with mineral spirits.

Was sort of the point, who says it works? Works for what?
I see stories about people swearing by it but never having the same exact car without it under the same conditions.

Personally, I keep mineral spirits out of my crank case and I keep oil out of my fuel. It's not a 2 stroke.

I suppose if it makes people feel better that's fine. At least it's not STP. :D

regular oil will run down or evaporate. MMO sticks around.
When I shut down my lawn mover for the winter, I run the gas almost out and then dump MMO in the gas tank. That chokes the engine out. the next spring the mower fires right up.

Regular oil evaporates? While I'm sure this probably is true, I've never had this issue with Mobil 1 in any of my engines.

I fill my lawmower with fresh gas as much as possible, right into the filler neck, put the cap on it and drain the carb and it fires up every spring. My generator I drain the tank, lines and carb, same thing, fires right up.

Snowblower I treat like the lawn mower.

On small engines I also turn the engine until both valves are closed.

I don't own a single bottle of MMO and all of our gas has ethanol. Our 1992 Coleman generator which has somehow survived without MMO.

every body who has ever used mmo knows it works, got a valve that's stuck or sticking adding mmo fixed that problem, got a stuck engine mmo will help unstick it, don't take my word for it ask a lot of the guys in here that have used it for those problems and had them fixed

Over in Yesterday's Tractors", I once developed an online friendship with a retired engineer from Boeing. "Dell" disdained the use of additives, Except! STP and MMO! These two additives were the only ones he considered to have any value. I concur!
