Miller-style cylinder head

4 Attachment(s)
Back in December I asked about a cylinder head that turned out to be a Miller head, and not a Winfield as was believed. Since then I went to where this head was and took some info from it and modeled it up with a combustion chamber that resembles a Winfield crow foot chamber. I test cut a sample chamber in a block of wood and calculations result in a 6.25:1 chamber.

I then CNC cut a pattern, and modeled the deck cover core and water jacket. The deck core and water jacket will be made from 3D printed sand for the first batch of orders, which looks to be some aluminum and some iron versions.

The pattern does not have any nomenclature on it yet, as I do not know what lettering will be put on it.

I believe pricing for these will be $375-400, maybe $425.

Sample pictures of the almost complete models and pattern are attached.

Here is what the water jacket and deck core look like assembled. The models are in the hands of the people that will 3D print them for prototype castings.

Which style/size of spark plugs are you planning for your design?

The originals used pipe plug spark plugs, so that is the plan at first. 14mm will probably also be available.

Good question.

I made 2 castings. One is in a machining fixture ready to machine but I am crazy busy right now so machining is not under way yet.

Okay. Do let us know when you are able to make further progress. Any thoughts on top “decoration” (script, name, etc.)?

I'm not sure what I will do for script.

For script I visualized TOD written in a FORD like script, with the letters the same and the T with the Ford F flourish. It is a neat project and would be fun to own.

Re: Miller-style cylinder head

Good news on the new cylinder head. Today the first sample was test run and things went well. It was run using a used gasket, so the next test is with a new gasket and then it will be dyno tested.

Hi Tod,
Is there a reason why the radius of the valve pocket area doesn't match the radius of the gasket?
