Re: vibrates when backing up Check your transmission mount and motor mounts.
As a General rule, vibrating, shaking when backing up indicates a bad or loose transmission mount. Vibrating, shaking when starting out in 1st gear indicates bad or loose motor mounts. Ken |
Re: vibrates when backing up Vanpeltsales site go to clutch chatter.
http://www.vanpeltsales.com/FH_web/f...oubleshoot.htm I had a multiple problems with mine. wrong washer holding the universal joint tight to the tranny tailshaft. It caused the bolt to loosen up and the U-joint would smash against the bearing retainer. Worn c-clips in the tranny. Oil on the clutch. |
Re: vibrates when backing up Clutch chatter could be the culprit for sure. When in reverse, the rear axle is pulling on the drive line instead of pushing. This puts things in the opposite bind that they're in normally in forward gears. Loose mounts can cause problems in both forward and reverse but may be masked by adjustments to take up the slack. There could also be something going on with the reverse idler gear but that would be an uncommon thing.

Re: vibrates when backing up What year car is it? Not that that in itself is important, but does it have anti-chatter rods fitted? Are they tight?
