New 41 owner, gas issues. Lol.
 

Hey guys, I recently bought a 41 Tudor and it is a great car. My issue I am having is if I let the car sit for longer than 2 days, I need gas poured down the carb to start it. I have read about using a electric pump to start it but that seems like a band aid to me. These cars when new started after days of rest. What needs to be addressed here? Fuel pump? Car runs great once the gas is flowing.

The most likely cause is the power valve leaking and draining the bowl of gas. Another common cause is the alcohol gas is boiling out after shutdown. A non metallic spacer under the carb often works. Good places to start. I got fed up with the problem and put a Stromberg 48 on mine. Starts right up all the time.

The carb guys will check in shortly with good advice about heat spacers & evaporation of modern gas, but before they do I'd like to suggest air leaks letting your fuel line lose prime.

There's that flex line between the steel line & the pump as the "prime" suspect. Then there's the pump itself, followed by wherever else there is rubber or a coupler.

It gets more complicated after that, but those seem to be the place to start.

Russ, what is unique about a 48 to eliminate the corn gas evaporating?

I haven't had the evaporating, or boiling problems some others have had, so my reason for going to the 48 has strictly been power valve issues. The Stromberg has a mechanical power valve not prone to the sealing issues we have with the Holly type in the 94s. My '40 doesn't run hot so I havent had the heat soak boiling problems.

Just because the power valve is new, don't assume it works properly or fits right. The later 4 BBL Holleys used a power valve that looks very similar, but doesn't seat and seal the same way. I have also had problems with 2100/2110 power valves in 94's.

Fuel pump solves the priming problem. But not the leakdown.
