Re: Timken BearingNumbers

The Timken number for the cup/race is 28317, the Brattan's number is 6090
The numbers for the bearings are Timken, 28156 and Bratton's number is 6070.
This is an new number for the bearing, the old number being A4221.
two bearings and cups are used in the differential. There is one double race for which I don't have the numbers. The Bratton's price was the best at $35 + @ for the bearings.
If your going to rebuild your rear, use Tom Endy's excellent step by step guide to this project. There is none better! I recently had to do a rear end rebuild and I think that few realize just how complex a job this can be. Always remember, Ring gear on the left! Or you will have 3 speeds in reverse. Thorough Cleaning is a must. And if I may suggest it, try a 3.54 set of gears. Mine were shot and had to be replaced and I'm very happy that I went to the 3.54 ratio. I lost none of it's hillclimbing ability, better MPG smoother, etc. Another thing, Buy yourself an inexpensive $30-40. laser thermometer that allows you to keep track of the temperature of the unit. I find mine a wonderful diagnostic tool!
