electric fuel pum and tank installation

Has anyone installed a plastic fuel tank and electric fuel pump in a Model A Sport coupe? Where is the best placement of both the tank and pump? Any suggestions as to the best tank to purchase?
Thanks,
Paul

Welcome to Fordbarn Paul.

Why not restore the original tank and correct whatever the issue is correctly??

I once had a Model B coupe that the gas tank straps had rusted out, so some PO had just put the gas tank in the trunk. Wasn't even fastened down.

I'm with Brent. Fix the real tank. Where would you put a plastic tank in a Sport Coupe??

I've seen them in roadster trunks. The pump could be anywhere as long as the tank will gravity feed it. Electric pumps are pushers, not pullers. '32 tanks are also available, and placed as in a '32, they look very nice.

Plenty of room for an auxiliary or main tank in a sport coupe. Perhaps the original is too far gone, and even if it wasn’t can you correctly patch them?

Part of the charm of a Model A is the cowl tank. That said, with this hot weather it is tempting to put a 32 tank in at the rear and gut the cowl tank to put air conditioning in.

I have a 16 gallon foam filled race fuel cell under the back of my "A" with the pump mounted on the frame rail alongside. The car has a luggage rack with a box trunk on it so the tank is almost invisable even if you are looking for it.

If you decide to go with a different tank and an electric pump, check out https://www.revolutionelectronics.co...Fuel_Pump.html for a controller. Also you should install an inertia switch to kill the pump in case of an accident. Late model Ford vehicles have a separate switch, usually mounted on the passenger side kick panel that works nicely. I see original tanks advertised on other sites in the $300 range, maybe you could replace your tank and sell your original bad tank to someone who wants to cut one up.

I have A/C in my '31 pickup with the original gas tank in place. Not a problem.
