Mechanical Oil pressure gauge fittings
 

The SW mechanical oil pressure gauges I use have what looks like a special type ferrule type fitting on the line. See photos of the copper and plastic lines with the fittings installed. I don't believe these fittings can be re-used. Anyone know a source for either the brass or aluminum ferrules ? I have all the rest of the the fittings & parts so I don't need whole kit. Thank you Fordbarners.

I used 1/8 inch copper tube instead of the nylon tube that came with it. and the brass nut can be reused but the compression collar that goes on the 8th inch to cannot be refused you can always trim back the tube and put a new collar on it and reuse a new section that way

Get rid of the copper and nylon and install an AN-4 braided hose before they break. It just happened to me last weekend and cleaning 20/50 off my car a motor was not fun.

Wow jrvariel48 I have a original copper line on my 59 corvette that I own for over fifty years and it hasn't broken yet. Yes I used a plastic line in my 34 and it did break or leak.

I don't blame you for not taking chances but when running any line that will be subject the vibration and or shaking should have a loop or have a coil in it to take up the movement. JMHO

Jimvette59, I agree with everything you said about the copper tubing and vibration. Even with the loop, the copper tubing will still work harden from the vibration and become brittle. You can remove the part and anneal it by heating it to a cherry red and quenching it in a bucket of water. Don't hold the part where the water will shoot out the end and hit you, voice of experience talking.

It depends on the gauge. Mine was an adapter from 1/8” npt to an-4

Sorry about the photos, I thought I put them on but they must have escaped. Here they are. Just need the ferrules only. Have both the copper and nylon i/8" tubing. Any suggestions for the ferrules ? Thank you.

Thank you all for your suggestions. The 1/8" compression collar is Not a Standard compression sleeve used in compression fittings that you find in the hardware store. Look at the photo of the brass sleeve on the copper line, and you will see the difference. These sleeves, especially the brass ones for the copper have a long sleeve to minimize chafing at the compression nut, and support the tube where it is most likely to fatigue from vibration. So the questions remains unanswered, where can you find just the compression collars in the photos, either aluminum for the nylon or brass for the copper lines. Thank you.

I just did extensive searching. It appears that SW no longer sells the copper tubing kit, only nylon. On ebay however you can find the kit cheap. no offerings of fittings only but the price is right. It appears that the ends are soldered on.

I also want to point out that the type of fitting in the kits with the ends that you want, are not compression type. There is no ferrule that crimps the tubing. The mechanical restraint is through the soldered joint between the fittings and the copper tubing.

I got something similar at NAPA. I don’t remember the straight part on the backside. They may have those. I stopped looking when I found the ones I wanted. Unfortunately there was only one guy that new anything about them, and he doesn’t work there any more. I can see if they have them or maybe search .... napaonline.com......Mark

Hi flathead8,

The common type you're thinking of is for a compression fitting. The type with the straight end is for soldering onto the copper tubing, just like those used in the early gas gauge line in a 32 ,i.e., the hydrostatic fuel gauge tubing from tank to gauge.
