'64 Falcon Futura convertible, a couple photos to share

Went to the local Costco today and randomly pulled into an empty parking space, right next to this car.

The original owner walked up as I was leaving and we talked for just a minute before I had to leave.
He bought it new from a local dealer that's still in business. 384,000 miles. Multiple trips to both coasts as well as Canada.
One repaint years ago, on its second new top and its third engine, was a 260 now a 289.
I would have liked to look under the hood but was late for an appointment. :(

A co-worker I worked with before we both retired owned a 1969 Ford Torino GT fastback, 390, 4spd, gold color. He bought it new, and it still looked it. I asked him once if it was all original, he said it was except he had to replace the quarter panels and have the whole car repainted. I haven't seen him in maybe 15 years and last I heard, he had sold it. Bet he got a nice price.

My brother had a 64 Sprint hardtop, red/black, 260 4 spd, but he bought it used. He lost his license and eventually sold it. Didn't look as good as that one.

That’s really cool, obviously well cared for. If it’s been local it’s probably one of those “rust free cars”. NM doesn’t use a lot of salt when it snows, do they?

Yes it's a 'rust free' local car. The owner has lived here since he bought the car new.
It's very dry here and seldom snows except in the northern part of the state. The road dept occasionally uses sand and small cinders mixed with some sort of melting compound on the roads when it gets icy. It doesn't seem to be a corrosive salt like many other places use.
Much like Tuscon or Phoenix I'm assuming, the sun here can take the paint off of a car before most anything else.
