Cam and Quickchange question

3 Attachment(s)
I got a pickup load of stuff the other day and wondered if anyone has seen this cam number before? It says TRACK
GRAND PRIX
ISKENDERIAN
1016
I was told the quick change is a “PERHAM”.

Re: Cam and Quickchange question

Someone has posted specs on this cam before. Maybe Pete.

I absolutely love those type of quick changes.

Re: Cam and Quickchange question

The fabricated quickchange looks like the type made in Massachusetts but I cant remember the name possibly highland. Sitting on the inside of the rear cover in the relief area of that oval shape you see on the rear of the cover was a bronze plate. This plate had two holes one for the end of the pinion and the other was for lower shaft. No bearings were used in the one I saw in the last century. Franklin also started out building quick-changes the same way both using the Ford banjo and adding tubing and an aluminum rear housing and cover. However the Franklin's I have seen used bearings in that rear oval area.

I'm assuming it's a track cam, Tony?

Re: Cam and Quickchange question

The cam had a mate 1015& 1016. I ran the 1015 in a 3 7/16 x 4 1/8 I think that's 304. We called it the Pairs motor, because it was going into a 32 roadster destined for Paris France. However it never made it, sits in a 40 coupe somewhere in the us. still runs. I was building that block back when I wrote my book. ben awhile.

There was a fellow named Trella in ct that made quick changes from steel welding up the stock center section. I think he was around the Hartford area.

Re: Cam and Quickchange question

Thanks guys!!... that would be great if it came from New England. I looked on the Isky website, but couldn’t find much info for Flathead cams. Just the Max #1 and a couple others. I’d like to get the numbers so I can keep a card with it. The QC does have bearings in it but they need to be replaced. I don’t see any trace of oil in it so I don’t know if it’s ever been used. I was told it would run Halibrand gears. I got no QC gears with it. I got a ‘38-24 stud block, oil pans for 59 style motors and most of what I was told was a ‘32 motor. I have to verify that with the block ID info that’s been posted previously. It has the same old story, was taken out of a running truck and taken a part 30 yrs ago to put in a SBC.
Thanks again..... Mark

Re: Cam and Quickchange question

Here is an old post from Kiwi Tony. Here are the specs he has on the 1016 Isky.

I can grind this cam , the specs are In 30* btdc-72*abdc @.050 10*btdc-50*abdc
ex 66*bbdc-24*atdc @.050 50*bbdc-10*atdc
lift In .367 lash .014
Ex.353 lash .014
111* lobe centers
A great race cam with lots of engine mods , not a good street cam =my opinion .
Cheers
Tony

Re: Cam and Quickchange question

The 1016 was a good circle track cam in a small engine.
A friend ran one in a modified for awhile till he heard of a #4 Winfield.
That moved him from the B to the A main.

Re: Cam and Quickchange question

Mark your quickchange will accept Halibrand change gears and possibly the lower shaft. Original Ford six spline ring and pinions were used in the fabricated housings The only modification needed to the gear set was end of the pinion splines were machined down so there was now a pilot end that locates in the upper rear cover bearing. If you need change gears and any other parts let me know I have rebuilt a lot of quickchanges over the years. Plus I have Halibrands in all of my cars including one that has gone over 225 MPH. The ones I build have improvements to eliminate blowing the ring and pinion {the weak spot } that then breaks the case. You definitely have an early East Coast hot rod piece.
