Hey Bob,
Thanks for sharing. This is sad news, indeed !
I will miss Herm's sage detailed A/B engine knowledge.
He was so helpful. I always took it that he was much older, because of his laid back demeanor and easy to read advice (with pictures) !
RIP Herm,,,,

I too loved reading Herms posts on babbiting here on the barn. Very sorry to hear of his passing. RIP Herm.

Re: We've lost another one

Herm had made a lot of friends on the Ford Barn. He never hesitated to help anyone out. Although I never met Herm in person he projected himself as a man of integrity. He was not just another car guy but a true craftsman, and friend to all.
My heart and prayers goes out to his family and friends morning their loss. God is there to let us rest our head on his chest and cry, take our hand and walk with us, and pick us up and carry our burdens when we are to weak to ourselves.

So sorry to hear. Yes, Herm wrote some of the most insightful posts on Ford Barn. I always read Herm with great interest. The voice of experience. Herm once posted a tip on removing a stuck rear wheel on a Model T. He said to jack up the opposite wheel, screw on a Model A rear brake drum knock off nut on the stuck wheel, and give that sucker a good whack with a sledge hammer. Works every time for my Model T. Thanks Herm. We will all miss you.

Same here, I enjoyed reading his posts detailing his knowledge of engines and dispelling certaian rumors about them. What a shame.

RIP Herm, you are already missed

The knowledge lost here is awful
I sure hope that someone can carry on the Art

Just another thought: did he die of the coronavirus?

Herman was one of my top favourite posters and a great loss to the hobby.
Condolences to his family. Is his son John going to continue the business?
Rest in peace Herm. You will be missed on the Barn.

One of the top few people here, when he posted - I made sure to read carefully and trust his opinion. Sorry to hear of this.

Re: We've lost another one

I've been talking with Herm's son John who worked side by side with Herm for several years. Seems he's back home in the shop, originally I think he was just going to finish and complete the jobs Herm had in progress, but one thing lead to another and he had to start making orders and buying products and it sounds like he's going to pick up where Dad left off. He said he's swamped with work and that's great, there's no way anyone that spent as much time with Herm as John has and not have a ton of knowledge with the machine shop. I just hope he continues to keep the business going. Next we'll have to get him signed up on the barn for advice like the old man.

Not sure what it's like on your side of the planet, but jobs are going to be very hard to come by for the next several years here. If you have a good business, stick to it.

I heard that John already had a thriving business in custom Knife making.

Seems he now has options. Keep Herm's business going or stick with the knives. For the sake of this hobby, I hope the former.
BTW, a custom knife maker here would starve. A knife is an offensive weapon under our law and as such, you are in trouble if you have one in your possession - even in your car.
